The students in Level V will be able to
Read Punjabi fluently and understand what they read
Write answers to question in complete sentences.
Learn counting upto 1000 and beyond in Punjabi.
Materials:
1. Roohani Punjabi-5
Suggested Instructional Activities: In 45-50 minutes, you should be able to;
1. Start the day with writing in a journal. Sample topics provided. Allow 7-8 minutes to write. In the meantime you may check homework, take attendance etc. Then ask 2-3 students to share their journal with the class.
2. Next work with a Roohani Punjabi book. Work on one story each day. Read the story loud to/ with the students. Discuss as you read. Ask the students to summarize what they understand from each paragraph. Go over difficult words. At the end of each story are numerous follow up activities. Do them in class or assign them for homework.
3. Work on one lesson in Punjabi Diaan Mehkaan every week if you need to supplement Roohani Punjabi Readings. Students should learn the vocabulary in this books. They may use the new words in sentences Yoo may assign vocabulary building exercises such as - list all the objects in Gurdwara, kitchen, bedroom, yard etc. They may make theme books.
4. Teach names of colors for two three weeks. When students have learned the colors, you may want to teach about 10-20 numbers each week. You must teach all the concepts within one year, order does not matter.
5. Assign homework every week to enforce practice. Assign composition of poems and essays for homework or long term assignments. Students must read at home everyday for 5-10 minutes. Or they may work on the exercises at the end of their reading books.
6. Keep a record of the students' performance and progress in your Teacher Record Book.
OTHER SUGGESTIONS:
1. Writing a biography of a family member, autobiography, family tree etc.
2. Presentation of reports in the class
3. Essay writing competion in class
4. Add words to the dictionary created earlier, or create a new one.
5. Categorize vocabulary words from Dharam Pothi into different parts of speech (nouns-singular, plural; pronouns; adjectives; verbs; adverbs; gender etc. Besides this basic grammar, the students should be instructed in conjugating verbs, making negative sentences, formulating questions, present and past continuous sentences etc.
